JAH Update on Suspension of TMOs in the MENA Region



We are pleased to advise you that our Head Office in Qatar and all our regional offices are fully operational either directly or remotely so as to better and timely service our clients and respond to their enquiries and concerns.


However, a number of Patent & Trademark Offices have curtailed office hours or are working online or remotely as summarized below :


Algeria: The Algerian Government has called for a general shut down from March 22 Until April 05, 2020; the IP Office only operates for a limited minimum service for 2 hrs a day.


Bangladesh: The Government of Bangladesh has mandated temporary closure of all the government offices except the banking institutions from March 26, 2020 to April 4, 2020. Thus the Department of Patents, Designs & Trademarks will be closed from March 26, 2020 to April 4, 2020


Egypt:  The Patent Office in Egypt was closed from March 19, 2020 to March 22, 2020 which has now reopened and The Trademark Office in Egypt continues operations without any interruptions and is accepting visitations three times a week.


Jordan: The Trademark Office in Jordan suspended all operations until April 1, 2020.


Pakistan: Provincial Government locked down the province and the city of Karachi


Kuwait:  Shutdown of all governmental institutions including TM & Patent Office till 12 April 2020


Iran:  Working hours in governmental entities reduced to 1PM until further notice.


Kurdistan:  5-day curfew imposed in Erbil and Sulaimani starting March 18.


Lebanon:  State of emergency and countrywide shutdown until further notice. The Trademark

Office in Lebanon suspended operations until March 29, 2020.


Iraq:  Curfew imposed in Baghdad as of March 17 until March 29 and IP directorates have been

suspended their operations to 29 March 2020.


Sudan:  IP Office accepts new filings only; all other services are suspended as from March 18 until

March 31


Tunisia:  Following a government-imposed curfew, the Patent and Trademark Office in Tunisia,

better known by its French acronym INNORPI, announced it will be accepting all IP matters

via email in order to minimize user impact.


Morocco: Government declared a health emergency and movement restriction across the country as from March 20 until further notice. The Patent and Trademark Office in Morocco is operating regularly but has requested applicants to submit all applications online. Submitting recordals is not possible until further notice.


KSA and GCC Patent Office in Saudi Arabia: Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property is closed;  however, operations for all IP work are carried out online till March 31st; whilst original documents can be submitted at a later time.


Gaza: Fully operational, but some office members are working remotely.


Libya: Shutdown of all governmental institutions including Patent and Trademark Office till 29 March 2020


All deadlines falling within the shutdown period will be automatically extended to first working days. We urge our associates/clients to send their instructions for cases with deadlines to have all formalities prepared for immediate submissions on the first working day.
