Lebanon: Official Fees Adjustment Following the New Budget Law No. 324
Following the announcement of the new Budget Law no. 324 which was published in the Lebanese Official Gazette on 15 Feb 2024, adjusted fees structure for Intellectual Property Right services have been introduced which were put in force with immediate effect.
The decision has also identified new regulations as well, the most important of which are highlighted below:
- The term of protection of trademarks has been shortened from fifteen (15) to ten (10) years. Hence, all issued certificates henceforth will reflect the protection period of (10) years; while trademarks registered or renewed prior to the decision’s implementation will maintain the former 15-year term before and shifting to the 10-year term upon their upcoming renewal.
- Penalty fees will be imposed for every two-month delay in any services associated with license agreements.
- The new regulation will be applied on all of the new and pending applications.
Lastly, the adjustment of fees is seen to be a major step taken by Lebanese authorities to maintain the same currency value against foreign currencies, as the Lebanese pound keeps plunging.
Mozambique: Fees adjustment
The Mozambican Industrial Property Institute (IPI) has recently adjusted its official fees in accordance with the Ministerial decree No.154/2023 and which took effect on February 28, 2024. The fees adjustment covers several services including, but not limited to, trademark registration, renewal, and legal procedures such as oppositions and responses to provisional refusals. Despite this increase in the official fees, JAH Intellectual Property has maintained its professional charges without any increase.
