Iran: Electronic Publication of Trademarks:

Pursuant to the Industrial Property Protection Law of Iran, approved in 2024, and effective from April 12, 2025, all accepted trademarks applications and other post-registration trademark actions will be published electronically on the Intellectual Property System website, accessible at https://ipm.ssaa.ir/MGZ. Consequently, as of the aforementioned date, the trademarks applications and trademark actions will no longer be published in the Official Gazette. Instead, the Electronic Gazette of Intellectual Property will serve as the sole medium for trademark publication. Meanwhile, this transition to electronic publication has resulted in the cancellation of the previously applicable publication fees.

Turkish: Introduction of the subclass:

Kindly note that the TÜRKPATENT office issued a Communiqué on the Classification of Goods and Services for Trademark Registration Applications” (TÜRKPATENT: 2024/2) introducing sub-classes, which was published in the Official Gazette (No. 32758) on December 20, 2024, and entered immediately into force. Previously, when applying for a trademark in Turkey, applicants would specify the class(es) of goods and services relevant to their brand. Now, each of these classes can be further specified to better define the scope of protection and aims to avoid ambiguity in case of disputes. It is particularly important to note the changes within Class 35, which covers retail and wholesale services, including a broad subclass (35.5) for bringing together a variety of goods (from 1 up to class 34) for consumer convenience. For instance, a textile company wishing to register its trademark in class 25 can further code its items to in the subclass 35.5 services of bringing together (shoes, hats, dresses, swimwear…etc.). it is important to note that TÜRKPATENT has implemented a new fee structure for applications that utilize multiple subclasses within 35.5 (beyond the initial two). This is to encourage more specific and necessary classifications and to avoid overly broad applications. Finally, we reiterate that coding subclass 35.5 is still optional and not mandatory.
